Match Report

Another disaster story?
After the previous weeks disappointment we looked forward to improved fortune and after winning the toss for the third time on the trot put the oppo into bat. Centaurs seemed to take the limited overs aspect of the game too literally and seemed intent on playing attacking shots regardless of the delivery. Subsequently wickets fell at regular intervals, but alas our normal shitey fielding and catching enabled the score to mount.
Nigel bowled a lengthy spell and returned 5-55 and two late wickets for Steve M left us needing 149 for victory. Within some of the newer players their lurked an inane confidence that the target was within our reach, but this was rapidly dispelled as our experienced heads set about getting out as quickly as they could .The first five managed to chalk off the odd eight that we needed and for a time our all-time low of 18 was in sight. Fortunately the lower order, while never looking likely to turn the game back in our favour, did manage to push the score towards some semblance of respectability. Double figure contributions from Spud, Jim, Geoff, Nigel B and ‘tonker’ Steve took our total to 88 before Nigel H was run out for a second consecutive duck.
Pen pictures
Timms -Golden duck and hit for two monumental sixes. Highlight of the day for all !!
McMahon -Usual brief display at the wicket, but outlasted Timms and Smale.
Smale -Must have been watching Jim play
Morrison -Back to normality from last week. Didn’t take so long to talk us through this week’s innings
Paine -Might end up building a sight screen with off cuts from his bat if runs dont materialise soon.
Whale -Despondent and distressed
Clements -Has yet to discover a defensive shot in his armoury but lives up to his boundary boy reputation
May - Found runs in the lower order
Behan -Promising debut and admitted to being an opener .A scouser, but you can’t win them all.
Martin -Fine return from the Silver Fox and all round performance of the day. Still can’t catch for toffees.
Henderson -Five more wickets.17ould be challenging for the record seasons wicket haul.
