Match Report

10 May -v- Ash at Ash Cricket Ground
The skip returned to the fold, in place of Steve Davis, for our first ever visit to Ash. A mid-morning call from Mr and Mrs Timms confirmed suspicions that their prompt arrival at each of the first two games was merely a fluke and it was no surprise that we had only nine present at start of play.
After winning the toss and a mid-wicket conflab, in which he discovered that we were not from Gillingham, the oppo skip elected to bat!!! On a damp wicket Ash found it extremely difficult to cope with the consistent accuracy of Daz and the Silver Fox and after grovelling their way to 54-4 from 32 overs were saved from almost certain defeat by prolonged rain that prevented any further play.
A super tea was taken before our host ushered us to the cosy confines of the Rising Sun, where a very convivial Landlord had opened up very early.
Several Crusaders seemed more than pleased that play had been abandoned for the day and took full advantage of a couple of hours extra drinking time. Our oppo managed to muster a darts eight but as it appeared on the cricket field, they were no match against our wily throwers .
Kangaroo Court Judge Webb once again found himself in the dock answering dress-code violations and soliciting clients,as well as an explanation for not being able to follow simple ground directions. Gordon received a unanimous acquittal for a dropped catch that "he would have caught if the batsman had not edged it".
