Match Report

31 May -v- Brasted Invicta 31 May at Chislehurst
Yet again Spud lost the toss, but was both pleased and surprised to be given the opportunity to take first knock. With Silver Fox replacing Timmo and Ian Campbell stepping in as late replacement for J.R.Hartley, we looked to extend our impressive start to the season.
Mark, not for the first time, provided 'the meat' in an otherwise dry sandwich, as yet again we struggled against an indifferent attack. After a sound if unspectacular start, involving three twenty plus partnerships, the flowing stylish middle order contrived to fold almost non-existently. After a troubled start ‘I’m Good’ Campbell proved it’s not just Football that he’s brilliant at, with a well hit 23, combining effectively with Big Six Jim to add 27 much needed runs for the last wicket. At tea we had scored a respectable 160-9 and although confident of winning ,the skip was upset at the manner in which we had accumulated our runs, against an attack with as much potency as Jims semen. History was made. The result not in any way outstanding, took second fiddle to a remarkable spell of bowling from Darth Clements, that took him into second place on the all-time list. In an unbroken stint of 14.5 overs he was denied Laker-like status, only by the safe hands of Duckie Schultz. Seven of his 9-41 were clean bowled and it certainly left the skip wondering whether he couldn’t afford to give a few of his fielders an early night in the Bulls Head. The bare facts of Brasteds innings was that they were skittled for 82 in 28.5 overs and they didnt like it!!!
Post Match Jim was driving, Spud had to go home, Brasted were as sociable as ever and everyone else got hammered on Jim’s behalf. No news of the jug yet!!!
