Match Report

14 June -v- Westcombe Parkers at Chislehurst
With the exception of the skip and Chuckles,we got firmly to grip with an extremely impotent attack and rattled up the sort of total that should have been posted over the last few matches. Once again our finishing score owed much to big hitting in the last few overs, after we failed to find any acceleration early on. Jim followed his recent career best bowling exploits with an improvement to 41 with the bat, before the enticement to hit just one more into the tennis courts became too much. Our last stand again bore fruit, with Lardy Wilsdon playing like a man possessed, ably supported by the Fox, who was not worried at the prospect of another record stand falling as long as he was still part of it .Gordy, alternatively was baying for a wicket to fall, so that his solitary mention in the annals of club history would remain intact. What followed is best forgotten about, as the Parkers displayed to the full their ineptitude, against even the most inviting of bowling. With no prospect of any other result than a resounding victory, the game sank without trace into the depths of boredom, as those now familiar field settings -three mid-ons and two leg slips holding hands- started to materialise. Of some benefit was the close scrutiny that our bowling took from a retired chappie perched on a park bench. Eventually after audibly muttering that he 'couldn’t believe it' he was led away in obvious distress. After what seemed an eternity the Parkers succumbed to the guile of COCO and the slick fielding of Direct Hit II Wilsdon. We gave the oppo sound directions to a pub we had no intention of using and then had a very enjoyable evening.
