Match Report

Tuesday 4 June –v- Greenwich and Bexley Health Authority
Once again the skip was able to call on all the big guns for our second mid-week sortie of the season. For once we formulated an eleven before the oppo and the very charitable skip allowed them the chance to bat. Due to the late start the format was reduced to fifteen eight ball overs. Daz set the tone of the game by dismissing the nobby opener with his first ball and paired with the nagging consistency of Fats Wilsdon reduced G & B HA to 16 for 4 from four overs. After that it was as much as Greenwich could do to conserve their wickets, with only Greychap taking a bit of stick. With the exception of Slug Grater our ground fielding was a revelation, as we made the oppo scrimp for every run. Best wicket of the day must go to the wily spin of the Sea Slug, who in taking a one-handed return catch saved the grounds man the chore of rolling a pitch for the weekend, whilst eliminating some over populated third world country by producing a seismic quake. With the boundary again a short one, it was a testament to pitching the ball up that all bowlers returned attractive figures. G & B HA eventually crawled to 76 from their allotted overs. With the heavy sky and rapidly fading light to contend with the duo of Paine and Timms were sent in to do a total lock-up job and get the game sewn up before the inevitable interruption of the rain. Suicidal singles and the occasional fluent boundary were the name of the game and very soon the oppo had got the complete arse as we scored at will. The rout was completed with the minimum of fuss in only 7.1 overs for the loss of only Limp to a quite ridiculous shot. For some reason, which the skip takes all responsibility for, we found ourselves in the Rising Sun and this proved the only sour note on another successful day. All the girlie types went home leaving just the skip and noskin in the Bull discussing hair restorants and the rebirth of the Bobby Charlton look.
Pen Pics
M.P.-Took average to 121 and a sure fire bet for the Ray Rep side.
G.T.-Dropped a catch and scored a very nonchalant 44 - didn’t like their opening bowler.
D.M. -Bowled rapidly in fading light a really unpleasant individual.
C.W. -Economy itself and two more wickets.
S.M. -Almost wasted all our time but did some umpiring to save face.
I.B. -Debut in the Ray Willis and must be thinking what a nasty bunch of chaps we become in midweek.
S.W. - took two wickets for only four runs - absolute class.
S.G. -Bowled well but is he slow or what!!! Had the shits
N. P. -After a years absence soon got back into the groove.
S.L. –Can’t bat or bowl so tried for the bad taste dress award.
G.R.-Another catch –It’s unbelievable....Only missed seven stumpings
