Match Report

Sunday 15 August -v- Gravesend R.F.C.C. at Donald Woods Drive
With the skip on family duty, it was left to The Lip to oversee our fortunes in the return game with Gravesend. Tongue and The Northener came in to replace Spud and Limahl -who had recording commitments. Gravesend won the toss and must have fancied an early finish, as they gave us the opportunity to set a target. Our total centred largely on an unbeaten 83 from Rhino and some good late assistance from Limp and Simply. Darkie maintained his excellent form of late, adding to the duck at Belvedere and looks more and more likely to get nowhere near the 550 target needed to become top scorer in a season. Fine bowling throughout, meant our hosts were always struggling to keep pace with a modest asking rate.
Set 162 to win, Gravesend foundered against the lively pace of Timms and Gale and though we struggled initially to make inroads into their batting, we exerted enough pressure to ensure that chances would be offered. At the close Gravesend was clinging on, ten short of the target with only one wicket standing. Slack, with 4 wickets and Steve with an expensive 3 wickets did the majority of the damage. The tongue whose impact on the game had been marginal, proved what a rampant Fanny Magnet the club is, by tugging the Gravesend barmaid, thus making probably his only worthwhile contribution this season. We were well entertained evidently, as the skip was kept waiting till a late hour back at the Queens Head.
