Match Report

The season drew to a close at Farnborough with another fabulous Crusader performance. Star of the show was undoubtedly Slack Timms, whose ton was full of the shots he usually only plays in front of the bedroom mirror. Described by his skipper as one of the best tons he'd ever seen (amazing what you can do with a bat that has a middle) it contained shots to all parts of the ground. He was set up by the tip and run partnership of Channa and Taylor, who in seventeen overs of outrageously piss- taking running put on 95 for the first wicket. Both openers departed in quick succession allowing Spud the pleasure of leaning on his bat while GT made hay. Locksbottom did not lie down and accept defeat and all the while their openers were together they harboured some hope of winning the game. With the more highly thought of bowlers getting no joy, Darkie Paine came into the attack (possibly the first time since sulking in the outfield at Civil Service in about 1989) and immediately got the breakthrough, trapping Chris Trevatt lbw for 69. This opened the floodgates for a few wickets to tumble, but with Chand behind the stumps, suffering a torrent of abuse from Sumo in the pavilion, anything was still possible. Locksbottom gamely pursued an unlikely victory but the game drifted to a draw, with Locksbottom still 25 runs short.
